The Santa Monica company announced Tuesday that subscribers for its World of Warcraft online game had fallen to 10.3 million, down from 11.4 million at the end of March.
“The magnitude of the decline was surprising,” said Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Securities. “The vast majority of Activision’s revenue and profit comes from World of Warcraft and Call of Duty. And if one of those shows a decline, investor confidence is shaken.”
Activision Blizzard’s shares slipped as much as 48 cents, or 3.5%, to $13.45 shortly after the company updated analysts on the game’s subscribers. Prior to the announcement, it had gained 19 cents to close at $13.93.

Blizzard Entertainment, the Irvine-based Activision Blizzard studio that produces World of Warcraft, saw revenue decline 38% to $297 million in the third quarter compared with a year earlier, while operating income dropped by more than half to $120 million from $246 million a year ago.
The stumble overshadowed the achievements of Activision Blizzard’s other big franchise, Call of Duty, which has generated several billions of dollars in revenue since the series first came out in 2003. The most successful title was last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops. It sold more than 25 million copies.
Activision Blizzard said the pre-orders for its newest game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 — which went on sale Tuesday at 12:01 am — surpassed those of Black Ops.
More than 1.5 million players queued up in front of stores to be among the first to buy the eighth installment in the hard-core shooter franchise. Hours later, Activision Blizzard executives said the company’s revenue and profit would be substantially higher than it had previously forecast, thanks to the game’s strong sales.
“By all metrics … the Call of Duty franchise continues to grow,” Eric Hirshberg, head of the company's publishing division, said in a call with analysts to report the company’s third quarter financial results.
Overall, Activision Blizzard posted net income of $148 million, or 13 cents a share, on revenue of $754 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30. A year earlier, the firm recorded $51 million in net income, or 4 cents a share, on $745 million in sales.

Specializations: Worst-kept secret?

Anyone who's been around since The Burning Crusade knows buy wow gold about alchemy specializations. They're a terrific bonus to the profession that allow you to, on occasion, produce extra potions, elixirs, or transmute products as a bonus. With a proc rate of somewhere around 15-20%, they can single handedly mean the difference between profitability and taking a loss.

Great though these specializations are, though, not a whole heck of a lot of World of Warcraft's current player base know they're even available. The necessary wow items quests are located in different locations in Outland. Some newer players miss them entirely. Come on, show of hands -- who's been to Stormspire in the last two years for reasons not associated with alchemy? Anyone?

And even once you find them, the three alchemy specialization quests are a pain to complete. One sends you into the Black Morass instance, one of my least favorite in the game. Another forces you into the Botanica. If you're at level 75, 80, or 85, you can't queue for these through the Dungeon Finder -- you have to make the trek all by your lonesome and solo swtor gold  the instance. Granted, soloing these instances is pretty simple these days. But for a stupid alchemy specialization, it's a lot of work.

Moving the specialization quests to Stormwind and Orgrimmar is a terrific step in getting newer players caught up to speed. Of course, it also levels the playing field information-wise and will likely make it harder for alchemy moguls to make a living. (Sorry, guys.)

What is wrong with schools that there is so much discussion about how to fix them through gamification? Star Wars: The Old Republic talks instanced regions and hubs at NYCC

Last weekend's big convention, New York Comic Con, hosted another panel on Star Wars: The Old Republic. And perhaps to the surprise of the fans, this panel was all about buy swtor credits numbers. Rift Patch 1.6 Preview: Ember Isle

The turrets in question are central to Patch 1.6's non instanced gameplay, particularly for new dynamic world events known as Onslaughts. Another chapter of Star Wars’ ancient history is about to be revealed. Drew Karpyshyn’s novelStar Wars: The Old Republic — Revan, due Nov. 15, is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2003 videogame Knights of the Old Republic.

Science Scanner: ‘Star Wars’ Capturing Beam Could Be Real

Star Wars: The Old Republic Companions Can Save Your Evening

One of the most buy swtor credits  intriguing features of Star Wars: The Old Republic is the A.I. companion that each player will receive. In a new developer blog, BioWare's William Wallace explained how these companions have undergone changes through testing. 

At first, companions were completely autonomous. They did their own thing and players had no say over them whatsoever. However, in time BioWare realized that players wanted some control over these characters, just as - for example - a hunter controls his pet in World of Warcraft. 

Companions, therefore, have a series of A.I. toggles. You can leave them at their default settings if you'd rather not micromanage. However, more advanced players will have the ability to fine-tune their companions' behavior in a variety of ways. Here are some example provided by Wallace:
  • Players may choose to disable some area-of-effect abilities when using crowd control or when fighting tough single enemies.
  • Players may activate special modes or stances for their companion, causing them to focus more on damage or tanking, or on a single target versus groups of enemies.
  • Players may want to manually activate buffs and powerful special abilities on long cooldowns, as opposed to letting the companion pick when to use their most powerful attacks.
Companions will be formidable enough

In most MMO's, that might bring the run to a screeching halt. However, in Old Republic, one of the players in the party can summon their companions in order to fill out the group.

EA downplays Old Republic shortage

Gamers shouldn’t be too worried about struggling to get their hands on a copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic at launch, EA has said.
Despite saying it will “ration” sales of Star Wars: The Old Republic upon its release to ensure it can maintain a working online service, the publisher still says its plans for the game’s release on December 20th are hugely ambitious.
“We've taken a very detailed approach to looking at how do buy swtor credits  we maximize the customer experience when they go online with Star Wars – how to maximize the fun that they're having online, the stability, the quality?” EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau told investors.
“We're using our beta test to inform us of what scale that we can handle. Our pre-order campaign is tailored towards how we're going to do that.

Playing the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta—the birth

One of the cooler touches I noticed was that as your character levels, your combat ability evolves visually. There is no auto-attack here; you must always choose to attack.
